Michael Jackson

Can we not be done with this Michael Jackson crap already?

Michael Jackson was hugely influential in the world of music. He shaped music for generations. But he’s been irrelevant for nearly 15 years. In a recent Internet survey, over 20% of respondents actually thought he was dead already.

Can we stop fawning over Jackson and his pedophilic behavior? He was a music legend. Let’s move on.

Obama Betrays the Gay Community

I was surfing the Internet looking for some sign of Change from the Obama White House. But Barack Obama proves to be the great embarrassment for America.

I found this brilliant Salon.com article by John Aravosis “President Obama Betrays The Gay Community.” (http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2009/06/17/gay_rights/index.html) It should be mandatory reading for everyone who thinks that Obama is a good President.

Bernie Madoff

Bernard Madoff gets 150 years for bilking his customers out of billions. I hope that Bernie Madoff spends YEARS getting ass raped in prison. I hope some BBC makes Madoff his bitch.

Ditto for Madoff’s attorney, Ira Lee Sorkin of the firm Dickstein Shapiro. If an attorney represents a scumbag like this, they should share in their clients punishment. I hope Sorkin gets cancer and suffers. And anyone who works for Sorkin...even the lowly administrative assistant. You hitch your cart to that horse, you get what you deserve.

Ditto for his wife (Ruth Madoff) and sons/co-conspirators (Andy Madoff and Mark Madoff). I hope they all get cancer and spend YEARS suffering before they die. Somehow, I don't think we've quite heard the end of this story with respect to the remaining Madoff-family criminals.

This entire clan should be wiped clean.

40 Years

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 40 years since Stonewall. Despite the small progress that has been made, there has been no Federal advancements. Period.

So, here we are with President Barack Obama in the White House and the promise of real and meaningful change. Change – it was Obama’s campaign promise.

Here, on the 40th Anniversary of Stonewall, the Change that Obama promised is a mirage. America needs leadership and Barack Obama has been unwilling to provide that leadership. Barack Obama is the single biggest barrier to equality in America today.

And so millions of Americans are left as second class citizens. It’s a national disgrace and Obama is a national embarrassment. The time is now – full, equal rights for all Americans. Nothing less.

Expedition Africa

The wife and I have been watching the Expedition: Africa show on the History Channel. Or rather, we had been watching it. It could have been so well done, retracing the famous journey, interjected with history. Instead, it’s typical Mark Burnett – high on drama, light on substance. We’ve stopped watching.

The crux of the drama is this pompous little pussy Pasquale Scaturro. They’ve built him up as this great adventurer. And in episode after episode, you watch him make mistake after mistake. This guy is dumber than a box of hammers.

So a quick Google search turns up the truth on Pasquale Scaturro – he’s a “celebrity guide.” He pulls together trips and then brings together real specialists under him (these are the folks who actually have the knowledge). Good for him that he can organize folks, but let’s not make it out that he actually knows what he’s doing. Despite this, Pasquale goes out on the lecture circuit charging $10,000 - $20,000 to hear him talk about his “achievements” – achievements that were organized and orchestrated by the real guides and experts.

After this Expedition: Africa series is over, Pasquale Scaturro will surely double his fee and you can listen to him tell how he single-handedly led and saved the group in Africa. You can hear him tell the stories about how he knew everything and the other folks were just idiots. But just roll that beautiful bean footage – we know the truth about Pasquale Scaturro.

As someone who has over 20 years trekking, climbing and putting my life on the line on four continents, I’ve learned a thing or two. I’ve learned that one of the most important attributes of a successful adventurer is good planning...and the wits to adapt when circumstances demand it. Needing to always have things your own way is a sure way to get people killed. And sure enough, Pasquale Scaturro was man enough to fess up on how he has led people to their deaths.

Pasquale Scaturro talks a good game, but when it comes time to man up, he’s out of his league.

The Lessons of Michael Jackson

I’m shocked and apalled by the outpouring of grief at Michael Jackson’s death. Jackson, once at the vanguard of the music scene, devolved into a second-class pervert. Many people didn’t know that Jackson was still alive. Essentially, Michael Jackson hasn’t been relevant in years.

But the Lesson of Michael Jackson is not one of his eccentricities and his death – but of his early life. The Lesson of Michael Jackson is what can happen to child stars at the hands of an abusive parent. The Lesson of Michael Jackson is what can happen when we place too much pressure on a young entertainer.

I’ve been thinking a lot about other child stars about how they will turn out. And I’ve been thinking about the Gosselin children. The situation is extremely analogous and should serve as a cautionary tale – an abusive and domineering parent pushing her child stars. How many of the Gosselin children will turn out with drug and alcohol problems? How many of the Gosselin children will turn out with behavioral problems? Sometimes, children just need to be children.

Kate Gosselin is the Joe Jackson of this generation. And Jon & Kate Plus 8 is the new Jackson 5. What’s happening to those children is terrible and I hope that they can avert the path they are on and not turn out like Michael Jackson.

FIFA Confederations Cup

And the U.S., after taking a decisive 2-0 lead, chokes and gives up 3 unanswered goals. Brazil didn’t win the FIFA Confederations Cup as much as the U.S. lost it.

Kudos to the U.S. boys for putting up the best showing of the United States in an international tournament! It’s a damn shame we couldn’t have pulled up the Cinderella victory. But things look good for the U.S. in next year's World Cup.
